What do you mean? If I disconnect the battery the key code will be lost?
I have disconnected it many times, left it without battery for hours, when connected back all good, no problem with the key.

There is a known issue with 1.6D that those CAN loose code after battery is disconnected for a longer while and users reporting that keys no longer work. I dont remember whether its a case of fob, or immobiliser or both, I just remember reading about it many times and hearing explanations "it can happen on those engines". No idea whether its only pre-FL models or in general, also whether its only "some cases" or what, but yes - that happens.

makes me wonder if key pairing& stuff is done differently on those cars or wha...

Could this be part of a complex wind up?

as for "key got lost and no clue where it is" maybe, still not explained how the key vanished.
as for "brand new key coded to car without other key present" no, I dont think so as new key works, starts the car and is defo not volvo -branded.

To conclude my research and for anyone interested: went on Saturday to get spare key for myself, waited an hour, was told "sorry, it cant be done".
sometimes I hate to be right but as I suspected, it must be some difrferences between 5pot volvo engine+ecu and other cars, as he said its normally no problem at all (and by "normally" I suspect 1.6D, 1.8 or 2.0).
If it worked, new key would be basically a clone version of current one - no new keys added to car, no programming necessary etc - car would think its the same key, so no Vida connection necessary etc.

I ended up just getting a blade cut to have a spare for emergencies (such as the one that started that thread :> ) but thats all.

Ah well... I am used by now to "dealers only" excuse as for software/parts etc...
