Under-engine plastic cover vs oil leak
So, had a major oil leak fixed (new oil sump) and park the car on the drive. 3 hours later, oil dripping onto the drive - not very happy.
On further investigation today, turns out that the car itself is actually bone dry and it's the large plastic 'tray' that bolts on underneath the car (covers oil sump, gear box etc) that has a 'carpet'/fabric lining on the engine side - this is totally impregnated with oil from the previous leak. I scraped out an awful lot of oil, took it off and jet washed it/washing up liquid cleaned it. Leaving it to dry in the sun, it is still dripping oil and it looks like that fabric is just sodden. Just wondering about my options and people's advice, do I: a) leave it to dry for a few days / put some cat litter on it and then it'll be fine b) remove the fabric lining from the plastic cover, clean up the plastic cover and bolt it back on, because the fabric lining makes no difference c) get a new/used plastic cover with clean fabric lining as it's necessary for noise reduction. Alas, most replacements on ebay appear to be the plastic cover only with no fabric liner What are people's thoughts? Does the fabric lining help with sound suppression? Appreciate people's suggestions. |
