Default Any ideas?

Hi,

Just noticed this black gunk coming out of a joint between the fan and engine. Any ideas what it is or if it's anything major?

Thanks,

That's one of the power steering pipes but that type of oily deposit also happens when the intercooler starts to leak.

I have exactly the same on my XC90.

Mine was almost itendical to yours when I got my XC90 a year ago.

It's the high pressure power steering line which is weeping slightly.

Clean it off with WD40 and a rag, and monitor the situation.
Check you have enough power steering fluid in your reservoir.

Over the last year I have cleaned mine about 4 times and each time it was hardly even a congealed drop of power steering fluid, so not worth doing anything about it, unless it gets worse.
