Alarm gone mad.
So over winter our alarm started to play up, going off randomly before finally going silent. Been waiting to sort it along with some other issues for the warmer weather. However it seems to have gone mad. It started making noises from within the wing even when the car was unlocked. The noises were like the alarm sounding but really quietly. It has stopped that now but instead it is going off as an when it likes.
This isn't a ask for help as I know the module needs replacing more of just a share as it doesn't concern me as it's not making a noise when it goes off just flashes the hazards. |

A common problem on the P2 S60/V70 model is the battery in the siren leaks and destroys the PCB, and I would assume the XC90 of a similar vintage would have same alarm setup. If you catch them when they start to fail you can get away with replacing the battery, but by the time they start croaking and squarking by themselves then they are irrepairable. Don't waste time buying second hand sirens and they are almost certainly in the same state (I got lucky on my fifth purchase!). New sirens are somewhere over £150 these days but it's the only reliable way to get a fully working alarm system. Once they get to that stage they have a tendency of running the main battery down too so it may be wise to locate and remove the appropriate fuse.
Be wary of not bothering to fix it on the basis that no-one is going to want to nick an old XC90 - there have been examples of people's insurance policies being voided because the vehicles security system was not in working order. |
