On the rare occasion we have 7 seats in use, there's still space for the dogs (at a squeeze) or, more normally, kids rugby kit etc. That said the V70 passenger seat tilts forwards which lets you carry some seriously long loads!

My 9-3 convertible, on the other hand, is crap at carrying anything - which is why I drive it!
I had a 9-3 convertible too.

Great car - mine was the 2.3i

It took four of us (4 adults) back from Aberdeen to Hampshire in one hit with no complaints from anyone.

Had a remarkably spacious boot (with the top up of course...)

Cheers

Dave

The front passenger seat backrest on the XC90 also folds forward to increase the load space to a massive length, (two levers at the rear of the seat base, push the seat fully back first so headrest clears the dash)

Poor example perhaps, but I use an 850 estate as my workhorse, lugging the world and his wife in tools around, but have recently bought a nice XC90 for family duties.

I know the 850/P80 platform cars are not as big as the P2s, but the XC90's load space is quite frankly massive in comparison.
So much so in fact, that I'm seriously thinking of buying another, slightly rough XC90 and finally retiring my faithful old 850. Only problem is it simply refuses to die!

Oh, if you want to talk about pointless boots...
I also have a P1 C70 convertible. Nice steel bulkhead for the roof to fold into, literally cuts the coupé version's boot in two!

Having an XC90, with 3 kids and a large dog, plus a Travall boot divider, letting you load to the roof etc, the best solution for holiday is a big 460 litre roof box - shove the buggy up there - ours fits a double off road buggy with ease, plus all the wellies etc, leaving the boot for the dog and picnic!

Mine's a face lifted TiD, which is great for running to & from Heathrow. I can get my wheeled flight bag plus a hard Samsonite in the boot - roof down - with room to spare!
