Injectors....
A friend with a similar D5 on a ‘55 plate had a non-start issue recently. Lots of cranking, not even an attempt at firing till the battery flattened.
His first thought was that one or more of the injectors were playing up and his local mechanic arrived and usefully enough condemned an injector or two, taking £135 each for exchange units. Now when I’ve seen dodgy injectors before, they’ve introduced a missfire and a massive reluctance to start, but not an abject failure to fuel at all. How common is this as an issue as I would have been looking at rail pressure and suspecting fuel pumps to start with, I wouldn’t have gone straight to the injectors.... (His argument was that a knackered injector will let pressure pass into the bleed off, reducing the pressure in the rail such that the ECU never opens any injectors and the engine never starts. It’s easy enough to measure bleedoff when it’s running, but on a cold engine that won’t start, it’s pretty hard to get meaningful numbers, no?) |
