Likewise in G.W. Bridges in Pease Pottage near Crawley this weekend:
240 Torslanda (silver) 760 GLE estate (dark grey) 940 SE HPT 2.3 estate (burgundy) 940 HPT 2.0 estate (can't remember!) 940 2.0 saloon (light blue) 8 or so S40s with various engines and colours At least 5 850/first-gen v70 estates, at least 2 of these were turbos, and at least one saloon. a rather sad looking S80 (may well be in the crusher by now!) I didn't have time to look in the 'newer cars' section, but there were definitely some in there, including a police V70 that I could see.

Well done for this, there have been a few attempts at "Scrapyard Watch" before..but they seem to fizzle out.
Perhaps if members could just put a note in the appropriate bit of the forum, or in here? Or do people think a "Scrapyard Watch" forum should be set up? Could be a go-er if done properly? Graeme |

I think it's an excellent idea. But the yards I go to both have totally different ways of dealing with cars.My local one leaves the car for a few weeks sometimes longer for us magpies. But the other one has a much bigger turnover and nothing sits around for long.Bish Bash gone.
So if the poster happens to know their yard or asks how long is it "likely" to be there it would help.No guarantees of coarse but helpful nether the less. Regards Brian. |

No I dont know Graham TBH I havent been down there for many many moons, I used to work for a bloke called John Skeels (Skeelsy) he started off with a Ford breakers I started to work there on a saturday from about 13, the yard changed hands a few times, but I knew a lot of people in the scrap/breaking trade back then, do you remember Maybells on the A13, gone now, then I ended up running a shop for Skeelsy in Becontree Avenue Dagenham, 2nd hand spares and new stuff too, it was called Autosalvage spares, before that it was called, ??? no its gone but I will remember it, after that I went my own way and started my own business up called "Cars Wanted Dead or Alive" you may have seen the signs up at various traffic lights as when I moved away I handed the business along with the tools to my very close friend, and I started doing the same up here, bought 3 recovery trucks and by 2008 business was absolutely booming, then my health deteriorated and had to hang my boots up for a while, I still got the best truck sat in my yard with my T5 on the back. My friend is still running Dead or Alive from Dagenham, but he has had a bit of competition of late where someone is ripping his adverts down and putting their own up, its always been a bit of a cut throat game, but you got to stand your ground or you will get squashed. As fot Outens I thought they would have been well gone by now especially with all the new EEC rules for scrapyards, thats why we had to shut the Dagenham yard, the Environment Agency paid us a visit, they had traced waste oil in the water table miles away, we had a massive soak away in the yard and it was polluting the river Beam so we either had to spend an absolute fortune bringing the yard up to the new rules or get out. I realise your in Upminster, is Palms hotel still open these days?
