Nope..... NOK 450000 is about £50000 at the current rate. Most of that goes straight to the government for wanting such a bad-arse engine. We have a nasty little tax called the horsepower tax....

0-88 hp = 93,70 NOK per hp
89-122 hp = 390,44 NOK per hp
123-177 hp = 937 NOK per hp
Over 177 hp = 1952 NOK per hp

Not sure if the price is calculated at top rate from the first hp, or whether it is stepped, but either way:

(304hp (T6) - 177hp (top rate cut-in)) * 1952 = NOK 250000

....and the real difference is more than that. Plus tax on emissions, and kerbside weight. Plus Volvo and their dealer need to make some money on the T6 vs. D3!!!!!!!!

Quit bitching about the taxes you pay there - you have the best social security system in the world!

There's no such thing as a free lunch.....

"Norway's Government Pension Fund.......With assets of $382 billion at the end of March, it's the world's second-largest sovereign wealth fund, trailing only the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, which weighs in at about $875 billion".

No, there's no such thing as a free lunch, and I pay my income tax, capital tax and value added tax (25%) without complaining - at least not too much. But I did just pay £72500 for my XC60 R-Design D3 AWD Manual, and being British I find that just a tad expensive. Another £50000 for the big engine??? I think not.

can call me a peacock with no willy - but everybody, and I mean everybody, stopped to look at my car while it was in the dealer's showroom on Thursday. And then I got to drive it away

This was my exact decision making thought as well. The XC60 is a "tall" car & being a fast driver I did not feel comfortably with the body roll on the R-Design I tested, but yet I knew the rest of the family would complain about the hard ride of R-Design. Hence I chose a high spec SE Lux Premium with 4C so I could have the best of all worlds:
1. Comfort mode for when loaded up with kids & mother-in-law , or when taking it off-road.
2. Sport mode for a simular feel to the firmed up R-Design suspension, or
3. Advanced mode which is my pushing on option when it's just me in the car. It just handles the twisting welsh roads so well that i cannot fault it.
The 4C option is IMO one of the best extra's on my car..............

I also have a few R-Design add ons like the full f&r styling kit & silver sill side scuff plates etc

They'll look at it.. and laugh as they pull past you on the motorway sliproad

But then... your horsepower tax really sucks - does that include modified cars?

No one laughs when they try and take on my stage 3 T5 up a sliproad!

I completely agree, having had it on my S60 it was the first option I added to the XC, It's the best extra I have. Given than the XC is designed to cover such varying roads from gravel tracks to motorways , and driven in such varying styles I find the variable chassis an essential.
