Default DPF removal to become cause of MOT failure

I see that from early next year diesel cars that have had their dpf removed will fail an MOT test

Whatever the rights and wrongs I can't say I'm surprised

One point to watch is that if you are buying a second hand diesel you need to check the dpf is still in place if it was originally fitted by the manufacturer

Nah, leave it. Might be useful if someone just search's the Diesel section for MOT and DPF and not the main General Volvo and Motoring section. Link is now there for people to follow.

They just check if it is there basically if your Dpf has been removed and the box rewelded they're unlikely to create a fuss

The bypass pipe is a giveaway

Just find a lenient garage

The emissions check is being adjusted to full EU standards and that will show up a missing CAT or DPF, also gutting one is not only an anti social act if you spend time in cities or traffic jams, but because it uses flammable fluids for regens, it invalidates a cars insurance if you don't have a covering letter. The 3rd party part would not be invalidated, but your own cover could be. Also if there was a fuel leak from the blanked off feed pipe, that would constitute an act of gross negligence by the owner, so if there was a fire the legal situation would be interesting. It is not legal to sell a car with an illegal mod unless you inform the owner, so it will reduce the cars value.
I don't like cheaper DPF systems, so I bought a Volvo that does not have one, not that I get stuck in traffic or live in a city.

The Morris Minor and Traveller were superbly designed in maintenance terms, nearly every job could be done from above and there was plenty of room to acess all the engine parts. Such old style petrol engines are one of the big factors causing incredible smog levels in China! Long live Chairman ECU and the Go Green diesels.

at least they are mot , smoke test and tax exempt if before 1960. Sounds awfully tempting.
