Question 2.0d engine

I have got a 2008 V50 2.0d Se Lux with 46000 miles. I have been reading all sorts of horror stories about this engine and am wondering if I have made a mistake. They are supposedly the worst engine ever made according to some sites. Any comments from you people who have one? This is my fifth Volvo diesel but all the rest had five cylinders, this one has four. Is this significant?

Thanks

Brian

Any engine can be a lemon it just so happens the 2.0d was produced in huge quantities in Volvo' s hence you see a lot of posts on here.

Regarding the engine itself as a Volvo application engine I would say the major weak points are the throttle body and dual mass fly.

You'll see a lot of posts here regarding the 2.0d by me. My car had multiple problems but none were caused by the engine itself. I've just come to the end of a year long battle with Volvo and the culprit in my case turned out to be the diesel pump which was leaking fuel into the engine block past it's drive seal. This resulted in rising oil levels (you can go blind reading about that on this forum) but it's actually extremely rare on the 4 cylinder. I only know of one other definite case. People do seem to have EGR related problems (and quite a few others besides) but these are not unique to the 4 cylinder. A lot will come down to how the car was driven and maintained, quality of fuel, oil etc. for what it's worth, I'm always impressed with the power and torque my engine delivers. It's reasonably economical, always starts first time, runs smoothly etc. I've never even seen a hint of an oil leak and it never needs any fluids. Hope this makes you feel a bit better

Cool

Yes it does make me feel a lot better. Mine is a Powershift too. What is the difference between a Powershift and Geartronic?

Thanks for your response.

Powershift is a twin wet clutch auto box, more like a manual than a full blown auto box,

Geartronic is a auto box with option to select what gear you want to be in,

Just make sure you have the oil and filter changed on the powershift box at 50k service or make sure its already been done if its had service, (5.6 litres of oil)
