Hi cheshired5,

You'll be pleased to know my DiCE is working perfectly.

However, I keep getting problems with the VMware Win 7 installed on the Win10 Pro laptop I use in the garage with my DICE.

The problems seem to start after updates both Win 10 and particularly when the VMware updates.
(NB the old Samsung N130 running XP works perfectly but it only has a 10" screen and is incredibly slow due to the memory limits - I've altered the ViDA RAM spec to operate within the N130's max RAM )

Can you supply me with a VIDA 2014D copy that will run natively in Windows 10 Pro - if you can, that would be great - please pm me payment details.

Best wishes
Alan

Hi Alan,
I'm glad that my Dice is working well like all the ones I sell.

Because you've chosen the VM route on your laptop, I can confirm that from personal experience, Virtualbox runs Windows 7 Professional and Vida very well and stable so for a free option, I'd suggest that first.
I'm not aware of any plug and play Windows 10 Vida installation discs so installing Vida directly on Windows 10 (while possible) isn't straightforward and I offer no support in that regard.
Another (almost) free alternative is to create a partition on your Windows 10 laptop and install Windows 7 Professional and Vida on the partition.
When turning on your laptop, you then choose which operating system you want to use.
The feasibility of this is dependent on free HDD space and the processor on your laptop as not all processors support "old" systems like Windows 7.

Wink

Thanks for the advice Cheshired5.

Creating a clean partition makes really good sense as it would effectively prevent auto-updating of the VMware which seems to be the fundamental problem - there again it could be the bizarre way McAffee behaves with some program installs when it is re-enabled after the install of Vida.

It might make even more sense to do a total uninstall/wipe of Win10Pro on the larger screen Acer laptop which has plenty of RAM, then do a clean install of Win7 Pro, run the updater, then disable auto update, WiFi & etc then do a clean install of ViDA, as it wouldn't have an internet connection there would be no need to re-install the AV which just might resolve the issues I've had of late.

Thanks again.
Best wishes
Alan

If you make a Windows 7 Professional partition and turn off network features for that partition, any antivirus will be unnecessary as you'll be creating a sterile environment that isn't connected to the Internet so Vida can run unhindered.
There's no need to wipe your Windows 10 drive for the above reasons too.
