Gearbox tie rod - anyone tried polybush ing?
Was wondering if anyone had experience of using a polybush on the small end of the tie rod that goes between the subframe & gearbox, the original oem part seem to have a life of about 50k miles in my experience on a S60 D5, and its always the small end that goes first... has anyone fitted a polybush on the small end, and did you notice any adverse effects like vibration or similar ?, pic attached of the part im talking about ...

Hi yes I have done on my D5,
when I fitted mine I started the car and did not think that it added vibration but it does, it is not bad, and you feel the engine rev more under load, but the gear change feels more positive , for £20 give it a go, or you could use a bike inner tube as on Simons video, Dave |

I have a Powerflex polybush in the small end of the gearbox torque mount. It did add a small amount of vibration, but not enough to cause any concern. Gear changes seem a bit less sloppy, but the difference isn't really that great between the original unit and the polybushed unit.

febi any good?
thanks for your posts,
Think i might stick with a rubber based one like the oem, are parts from febi bilstein very similar to the original part?, i think the small bush is fairly flexible and probably like that to avoid transmitting too juch vibration, some of the cheaper noname parts seem to be pretty solid so the devil is probably in the detail as usual.. |

Febi, Lemforder or Corteco would all be good choices. You may find that the Lemforder and Corteco parts have had the word Volvo ground off. I believe Corteco are the OEM manufacturer.
