Default Idiot at work

Firstly Hi.
I have a 2005 V70.
Soo replacing a HU-650 with a pioneer didn't take off the battery (I now know!) so have a srs airbag fault. Anyway had some real problems after that blew a fuse and no power going to the head unit. Found out needed to disconnect the battery. Sorted that seemed fine started the car this morning abs fault stop car pull over safely warning no speedometer no odometer reading. Rev counter lights all work but all seems a little to well timed for it to be abs or braking don't want to start pulling fuses as that could damage a lot more does anyone have any ideas to rectify an idiots mistake?

Second idiot here to share the load.
Mileage of your vehicle, please.
What number fuse? Did you muscle it?

MAYBE this is a good time to remove both battery cables and touch 'em together.
Have a code reader / eraser handy. Make it a good one as there may be useful, wheel specific data in a particular code.

Get a little dielectric grease if you find yourself pulling a bunch of fuses out.

My first place to look would be the wiring around your replacement radio. I think you might have a short on one of the CanBUS wires which take control signals around the car. They also go to the back of the climate unit (which gives the SRS fault when disconnected) and to the radio to control the volume etc.

If you've used a wiring adaptor that doesn't support the Volvo wiring 100% it may have done something odd with the extra wires that standard ISO connectors don't support.

1:
Park the car and leave in peace for 10 minutes for systems to shut down.
2:
Open the boot, disconnect NEGATIVE.
3:
Leave like that for 30-60 minutes.
4:
Touch the negative to (still connected) positive.
5:
AND THIS IS IMPORTANT!
Insert the key, turn to position II.
6:
ONLY THEN reconnect negative to battery.
7:
Start the engine, check things for working
8:
Give me a call(sending PM). I'm typically passing Guilford around 8-9pm, but only this week (and with my own problems that I need to take to a garage, so it may happen I'll skip a day).
I'll have my laptop, Vida and dice with me from tomorrow onwards, maybe we'll find something out.

abs fault can show for a few seconds if the battery is low when cranking. let me guess it was a hot day when you fitted the radio - you had the door open all the while / had the move the shifter with the key in pos II to get the centre console out?

As a matter of interest,is the sequence that ThomasG shows only done if you haven't disconnected battery before doing work,or should this be followed every time you disconnect the battery for whatever reason, instead of just disconnecting the negative then re connecting negative when work is done.

Just trying to start a car with the battery out should remove any residual charge, or put the lights/hazards on, if joining the terminals together is too scary.

from electrical point of view it doesnt matter.

one way or another it all about bringing both terminals to 0Volts between them, irrespective what the voltage between them and, lets say. signpost, would be.

If trying to start the car without battery is easier- do that instead, by all means. Theres many roads leading to Rome..
