Default P0047

Hi

I hope someone can help, very, very recently the check engine light came on and cruise control has stopped working, I have check the fault code and its P0047.
I was going to start by looking into the boost control solenoid, would this be a good place or is there anything else that needs doing first?

Your help would be much appreciated.

What car is this and what transmission?

When this happened with my 2003 Phase 2 V70 D5 manual, it was because the clutch position sensor had stopped working.

This sensor is a vital means of preventing the cruise control from opening the throttle to accelerate when the clutch isn't engaged. (This would lead to over-revving and a knackered engine.)

If the sensor is unable to tell the position of the clutch, then the whole system is disabled and a warning message is displayed. Sadly, however, it doesn't say "Clutch position sensor faulty". That would be too simple.

That's my story. Now tell me that you're driving an automatic.

Both the manual and the autyo cars have a similar sensor in the brake system to cut out the cruise control when the brakes are applied. So if it were an automatic, it could be that.

The car is a 2.0D manual transmission with 127kmiles on it.
I am guessing there is a position sensor on both the clutch and brake in this instance.

Car all sorted, it turned out it was the cable to the rear boost actuator, it had been rubbing on the metal bracket the the actuators are mounted to and was shorting out. Some amount of electrical tape later and the car is good as new!

Many thanks for letting us know the outcome. This doesn't always happen.
