Mine is dirty to be honest and does need a good clean. Today the flashing had stopped so i guess it was only temporary and appears to be back to normal.

Yep - that is almost certainly your answer.

Used to get this on the previous V60 which was one of the last with the camera based system: it was quite easily confused by sunlight, reflections and dirt.

The newer models use a radar system in the rear wings as mentioned above in this thread, which gives a much more reliable system I have found...

The older system has its limitations as suggested in bright sunlight or when driving on a road with a barrier close to the car (camera thinks it has gone blind if it cannot see anything but a uniform concrete crash barrier).

I have had problems on mine in humid or rainy conditions with an error message that the camera is blocked and the light flashing fast. Cured most of these by replacing the BLIS heaters which is a fiddly job and I managed to break the clips on the mirror covers which is annoying.

Yes I've never had an issue with mine. Sees stuff long before it's visible in the wing mirrors. Cars and people crossing at right angles and cars coming up behind at high speed on the motorway. Can take 10 seconds or so before they become visible in the mirrors. I've learnt to be patient and wait because it's never a false alarm.

I had this on my other halves V60 (coincidently DCW's old one) the other day, the car was manky (sorry David The other half never cleans it lols), I gave the sensor under the offending wing mirror a quick wipe, and not had the issue since :-)
