Default 140 Electronic ignition

Over a year ago I fitted a Hot-Spark Electronic Ignition to my 114GL. A great little device that replaces the contact breaker set and gives a rock solid spark. Although the manufacturer does not say so this fits fine in the Bosch JFURX4 distributer, the one with the fuel injection contacts under the plate.

So, it really is mount and forget? I am looking into the same electronic ignition unit for my 164E.

I also fitted a hot spark kit to my 240 to replace the points and condensor. I noticed a definite improvement of tickover on startup and (although I havent actually measured before and after) I would imagine it is giving me slightly better performance and economy.

Default hot spark

I suggested my friend Hans with his 1800e this hotspark to get rid of the old worn ignition. Seems that with a warm engine this worked perfect. But when trying to start the other day (when cold) he really struggled. Has tried several electrical cotacts to check but still it doesn't go. Now he returned to the old system whih is too bad..
Any body any thoughts besides the a possible worn distri shaft?

The culprit could be that the magnetic collar on the distr.shaft is too loose. If it's loose the timing goes bad. The collar should fit tight. Happened to me with the Pertronix, which is a simular system. I remedied it with a piece of tape around the distr. shaft before putting the magnetic collar on or maybe put some locktight between the shaft and the collar to glue it on. This way it can't move anymore.
