Default ‘Wear and tear inspection’

Appeared on my 1st service bill this week as an extra, not a lot, £12.50 + vat but what on earth is that (Wear and tear inspection…that’s er…a service isn’t it?). not seen it on the Year 1 or Year 2 service for our first T8.

First 18k service, incidentally, has increased from £240 to £305 in the three years since Jan 19 to Feb 22, not far off 30% uplift.

Oh well, that’s life and the moment I suppose and only set to get worse

Sounds like another money making scam, if you did not ask for it tell them you did not want it and refuse to pay. They will invent anything to bump up the price.

I always avoid this issue by agreeing a fixed price upfront then letting them get on with it. They can then catagorise it as they want, as long as the total meets the agreed price.

As for the wear and tear inspection specifically, no I have never seen that either.....

That's not a volvo thing , The service covers all the car needs . Yes ask them for a list of exactly what additional checks were done and why they didn't get your authorisation before doing it ...
Everyone's costs are going up this year and the technicians are finally starting to get the wages they deserve and they are in short supply because of this long standing problem .

Dealers use menu pricing for servicing anyway - a matrix of age and mileage determines the service, and that service price is set. Their franchise requires them to do so.

This is something else, and as the OP does not appear to have asked what it is then we can only speculate for the present time.

I completely agree with Clan. I wouldn't be a techie. Poor wages, working to bonus, every 3rd customer is a smartarris that couldnt hold a spanner properly but thinks they know better than they do. I chat to the techs a lot when my car goes in (they let me sit in their smoking hut round the back so I can puff on my pipe) and I don't know why they put up with it, and im glad things are improving for the better for them.

Yes it goes back to the 60's when a mechanic was just the dirt on the dirty floor , getting paid the minimum the company could get away with .
Even up to 4 years ago a technician was on around £19000 a year depending where in the country he was .. why do they stick it? Because they love the challenge of repairing a faulty car and satisfaction of driving it out the door in a perfect state . Those that do leave for another profession never knew a lot in the first place .
Bonus is not achievable these days if you do the job properly . Never ever take any notice of OTE in the motor trade when applying for a job, ask for the basic rate of pay as that is what you will be getting ! It would be a better and a quieter life working for Lidl ...

Did they charge you £15 for a courtesy car too?
That’s what I’ve just been quoted.

Audi charge a £12.50 insurance admin fee for courtesy cars, so £15 doesn't sound unreasonable.
