and also the clamp at the cat had been fitted wrong, ie the ball and joint had a good size cap in it, but thats been sorted now as i took it to have the probe up the rear end and he said that the system was blowing , and the readings was all over the place, anyway fixed the prob took it back etc and he said it would pass emmisions now.

Default cambelt jumped a tooth

Just had a thought on the 850 camshaft sprocket cant you put them on in two positions wonder if thats whats happening is the sprocket is sliding if that makes sense causing the engine on the exhaust side to run really badly.

Might be worth a check [or just shoot me down in flames]

bud you have been here through most of this thread, along with others, your info is most welcome, im just waiting to hear from a member on here, gunna get them to have a look and see what they think, also had confo from a volvo mec that if needed he will give it the once over for me aswell, gunna do a flush of the rad and engine, and put some new anti freeze in it first, also will run a check on thermo-stat replace if need, wasnt gunna put anymore money into this but if im flushing the system and still using the car i might as well replace it.

hi m8, he said its a strange one as itdoesnt sneeze all the time, he said ive checked everything the only other 2 things he can think off is that air sensor in the air box- or the cam sensor, ive had a look at the cam-sensor the only thing i found on it was a small amount of yellow paint, which i cleaned off, anyways all the googling i did re cam sensor all comes back saying carnt wont start if this wasnt working and mine starts no problems. anyway did a fuel injection leak test late last night, pulled the injectors out on the rail etc turned the key to prime rail and left it for 6 mins no dripping fuel, so that carnt be the problem re the sneezing, so it could be the airbox sensor-of the maf, think that was the one the one on the front of the rad which has the pipe going over to the inlet manifold.

For the record Andy, this is not correct:
If the sensor is not producing any signals (unplugged or well foobhard) then the car will not start...
If the sensor is faulty BUT still sending, albeit erroneous signals BUT within the ECU perameters the car will (hopefully) start using these signals...

i also took the plugs out and gave them a clean, they are gen volvo plugs and have been in less than a 1000miles the inner part of the plug is a biscuit colour and around the bas of the threaded part and prongs was a sooty black colour, gave them light wire brushing put them back and the car seems to have its get up and go back when you put ya foot down, doing me box in now, within the last few days ive noted a tinking noise from under car sounds like a heatsheild or summit, had a look but it sounds like its coming from inside the rear box.
