Default Auto gearbox issues following service

Our XC60 D4 VEA auto went in for its annual service about a month ago (40k miles, 4 years old). I was told that there was a mandatory software upgrade but not the reason for it. Since then the car has behaved very strangely at lower speeds with a hesitation on a trailing throttle at about 30mph when gently reapplying power. I have had one issue of leaving the M5 motorway southbound at jn 10 where I was slowing down to join the road into Cheltenham; the car was doing about 25mph and saw that I could continue without stopping so reapplied power gently. At this point there was what I can only call a significant transmission shunt. Either the engine didn't fire or the auto box jumped gears. The car has been collected by Volvo Assist and checked over by Gloucester Volvo and declared fine, albeit before this latest M5 incident.

Could this be related to this mandatory software update?

I would have thought not... I'd be checking under the bonnet that all pipes and hoses have been re-attached correctly first.

From my limited understanding the gearbox is constantly learning and adjusting itself, after a software update it forgets everything its learned and takes while to sort it self out again.

Something I've noticed in mine, if I've done a few weeks of driving super sensibility, then decide to go for a bit of a spirted drive, the gearbox takes a while to adjust to the new style of driving
