lpg filling
Hi All
Just bought a 850 se 2.5 20v with lpg conversion kit fitted. I would like to know when your filling it should there be a noise at any time ? i.e the other day at morrisons was filling it and a noise started like a vibration sound rumbling does that mean the tank is full and do the pumps switch off automatically when full so it doesn't overfill. Also how accurate are the fuel gauges ? my system is the omvl gauge All help is greatley appreciated thanks all Dave |

Yes the vibration probably means it's full, the pump would usually have automatically cut off at that point but not every type does. I'd try filling up somewhere else and see what happens.
LPG gauges are a rough guide at best, don't expect a linear drop from full to empty You'll soon learn what it is actually saying. This might help: http://www.go-lpg.co.uk/how.html Cheers, John Last edited by John_C; Apr 28th, 2010 at 23:15. |

Yeah, let go of the button when it makes the 'machine gun' noise. It means it's full

Lpg
LPG pumps vary a bit, and most Morrisons ones are pretty old and knackered I've found!
Yes it's slow, yes, it's noisy, yes, it stops automatically, yes, it's a bit smelly when you release the nozzle, and yes, it's a great feeling to fill up for less than £25!!!!!!!!!! LPG gauges are next to useless - best to set your trip to zero when you fill up and use that as a guide. You should expect to get around 25mpg, so if you've a 48 litre tank (ie 60 litre nominal), you'll get 250+ miles to a fill. Cheers Jack |

Thank You all
Great set of lads here.
Went to different garage tonight and connected it up then kept button pressed and the pumped stopped when full yes no noise just clicked off gf was not white this time lol. First time i filled it gauge said it was empty and got 26 ltrs in and sounded like a machine gun. Used the car always on gas did 90 miles filled tonight gauge said empty and got 17 ltrs in it before it stopped. All the driving was town and some was on sport mode too he he She might be old and have a few miles but she can still pull. Just need to get her through mot and then alloys and hopefully get the new radio sorted hopefully Dave |

The machine gunning sound is where the cut off valve is bouncing. This is caused by pumps with insufficient presure not creating enough difference between tank pressure and fill presure. The OMVL secure block valve is supposed to stop this from happening but even with that valve in some cases it will still do it.
Don't worry about the noise just stop filling if it does it. Some valves do squeel a bit when filling but that is nothing to worry about either. As to the fuel gauge forget about it. Fill the tank and reset teh trip meter. Runthe car to empty to find out how many miles to a tank full you get. Trip readings give the best indication to how much fuel you have. |
