And wrong, assuming the V50 is the same as the S40 as mine certainly doesn't have a DPF.

Nor mine, I'm pleased to say.

As has been said many times on here, the 8th digit of your VIN will be "5" if you have a DPF.

Mine is "4", so no DPF or eolys fluid, happy days!

Default DPF History

I too have a V50 of 2005 vintage 2.0D and it doesnt have the dpf either. Another underbonnet check to make if you are looking to get one is to check how many hoses go to the throttle body. Only 1 indicates no dpf, and 2 it has one. You can just pull up the engine cover a little to check. Throttle body is in the middle just about where the bonnet catch is. Easier to see than trying to remember which part of the VIN number you need to check.

I was under the impression that if your 8th digit of your VIN is a 4 then its a Euro 4 with DPF and if its a 5 then you don't??

Original cars did not have DPF. These were Euro 3 spec emmission.

Then Volvo put the DPF as an option (this made them Euro4) but you could still order a non DPF car.

From some point on 2005 (my 06 I think) the DPF was a standard fit so all cars forom this point were Euro4. This DPF required additive.

Then, not sure what year, DPF engined cars did not require additive top up.

The DPF on a 2.0d always needs the additive EXCEPT the 2.0d with Powershift box. They have the same system as the additive free D5, D4 and D3.

That's interesting, I knew that some didn't have an additive system, but I've never had anyone explain what cars definitively had what. Thanks.
