My friend has a s40 he is getting loads of white smoke on start up anyone have any idea?

From what I have found, it could be coolant leaking into the combustion chamber [copied that from another thread].

In lamens terms, head gasket could be gone?

What is the coolant level like?

If the gasket if blown the pressure in the water circuit goes up.You can feel it on the waterhose that becomes very hard.Also air bubbles in the filling tank.
A creamy oil mixture (oil and water mix) is also a indication.
