Well according to this thread I should offer you no more than £1500, so I'll offer that then put it straight on eBay and sell for its real value.

I'm liking the headlight wiper delete and orange indicators. Might consider changing my clear ones

A beautiful car indeed, 'baggy798'. The colour, interior and specification (my roof was manual) are similar to those of my last 745GLE. I loved the crushed velour upholstery, much nicer than leather in my view.

But the difference between that car and mine are legion. That one is like a new car; mine, although it served me well for 18 years, was a heap in comparison. It had lived permanently outside and used in all weathers, and it showed.

If I had a nice heated garage in which to keep it in that condition and really wanted another 745, the price would not put me off. Sure, I'd attempt to negotiate - who wouldn't - but I would probably have shaken at that figure if he'd held firm. What are the alternatives? A 5 year old Fiesta or Corsa - no thanks.

My V70 may be shabby, but it cost 1/10th of that 745. It is reliable, comfortable and does all I need it to, and I don't need to worry about parking outside or leaving it in in the supermarket car-park. It's all about context - in an ideal world I'd probably have both and keep the 7 for high days and holidays.

Regards, John.

It was sold at auction John, any negotiation would have only sent the price up :

https://mathewsons.co.uk/auctions/au...0-gle-2-3-auto

Explains why it only took 10 minutes to sell!

Could be someone bought it on the saturday and flipped it straight onto ebay for the £5750 quoted and it sold within 10 minutes - i can't find the auction results page to ascertain the auction selling price.

Practical classic's report that prices have risen 46% and they are the car to buy at the moment.

............... but strangely don't list a value for the 760GLE in their price guide, come to that they don't list the Rover 827 Sterling either, in both cases they publish data for similar models with incorrect performance data.

Those are just a few of the anomalies i've found yet they still give a value for a Datsun Skyline 240KGT (1979-82) and the top value on those is now just shy of £20k. However, they weren't in production in 1982 so yet another anomaly!

I haven't checked recently on howmanyleft to see how many Skylines are left but the last time i checked, very few! Certainly more 760GLEs left yet no value for them......

Default Practical Classics Values etc

Is the document at the below link the latest Practical Classics Price Guide?

https://static1.squarespace.com/stat...March+2020.pdf

It is dated March 2020, so looks like the most recent.

It doesn't mention specific models, which makes it all a bit vague, but all 700s and 900s have risen in value if there's any truth to it!

When my insurance is up at the end of March I'll have to look at my "agreed value" just in case disaster strikes!!

I've got the hard-copy version, a few models are mentioned specifically but not mine.

With that in mind, it's not exactly helpful.

Thought i might have got lucky yesterday!

Having set up saved searches for 740s, this popped up:

https://www.gumtree.com/p/volvo/volv...ale/1367121592

Early 740, good MOT history, been parked up a few years. Messaged the lady who was lovely and said it needed a good clean, headlining and dash lights sorting, and external lights (not sure what has happened to them!)

But its a runner, great body and just needs some TLC.

Unfortunatly the cheapest quote i had to get it moved from London to Stafford was more than the car and i just don't have that sort of money at the moment! So someone should get it bought! Doesn't sound like it needs much, she said maybe a service, a good run to clear the cobwebs out, and an MOT.

Looks an absolute bargain for an early 740 saloon. Just a shame i can't get it to stafford on the cheap else it would be mine and i would ditch my horrible, leaking into the footwells Peugeot 106, which i don't really like but for £250, is serving its purpose with the minimum of fuss, its just a car i dont like driving!
