Default ABS Woes

97 V70R FWD. Just had ABS MODULE professionally repaired and I refitted it today. Unfortunately, still no ABS!?! Anyone else had this scenario before?? Do the pump motors give out, or is that rare?? What should I check/replace next?? Also I don't have VIDA to cancel ABS codes, but I'm getting one of the posher OBD2 code readers that do braking/abs/airbag stuff. Any comments appreciated.

Wires are very common. Ohm them to see if there is a break. Work through this troubleshooting guide and hopefully you'll find something that gives you an answer.

FYI. Vida and dice won't work on your car anyway to read codes. It will have parts info and repair procedures so would still be useful to get Vida on its own. Volfcr is the one to go for if your other system doesn't work out.

Lots of people have the scenario where they throw bits at the car without getting them diagnosed properly in the first place! It is usually the most expensive route which is the confusing bit to me!

The module had not been re-soldered before, so it was worth having it done properly as it's not something I or my local garage would have attempted. I will now work through the list of scenarios as posted further up thread. I suspect wiring and/or fuses, as the feed to the pump motor has the trunking broken/rotted, so I will do an ohms test next week. I've just bought an Autel OBD2/ABS/SRS reader which is long overdue compared to my old 20 quid scanner. Can't be arsed with VOL-FCR and laptops if I'm honest.... 🥴 🙄

Seriously buddy you should try your hand at soldering.
Just practice on an old circuit board from a tv or radio etc if you've not tried
It really is a piece of **** and will save you a fortune paying someone else to reflow a few pins on a circuit board.
Your paying money for old rope to get someone else to do this for you.
Hope you get to the bottom of your problem 👍

Have you checked the tone rings these are prone to cracking ,or the ABS sensors on the older models they pick up alot of dirt so a signal can't get through.

I can solder no problem, but I just couldn't be arsed cracking open the casing on the module and risking damage and all that stuff. Used to be an avid CB Radio enthusiast, so soldering back in the day was something you got accustomed to.

That will be one of the next jobs as and when. The latter job definitely.

The car I went & diagnosed the other week was a good example of why not to waste money on those scanners as they can miss diagnose the fault! He spent time trying to rectify something that wasn't an issue!

Someone near you will have VOL-FCR I am sure is a better move if you can't be arsed with laptops....

But it is your car/time/money so entirely up to you
