Changing to new model
I'm looking to upgrade to a newer model XC90, the new generation.
Been to a main dealer and seen something that I like around the £40k mark but the trade in offered for my car in part exchange seems a bit rubbish. I've got a 2014 R-design in silver with FVSH. Previously bought as a Volvo management car at under a year old and owned by me since. Done 54k miles, with polestar, RSE, Volvo detachable towbar, sunroof. Ok it needs a set of tyres and the service is due but their offer is £12k against the new car. Looking on Autotrader they seem to going for a bit more than that! Any ideas on what a reasonable price may be and in fact, anyone who may be interested in it at a better price. |

Obviously private sale without a trade warranty might reduce price a bit but you should certainly be able to add a fair bit to the trade in offer. Good luck with selling yours.

My Dad had the same scenario as you - he went to the dealer to buy a new T8, but was offered only 3.5k trade in against his one owner, FVSH XC90 R Design. A quick flick through several car sales chipwrappers showed dealers selling them to the public at close on double that, which was a huge mark up.
So he ended up giving it to me. Financially it's a relative loss for his as he doesn't get a bung for the trade in, but more importantly he doesn't feel like the dealer has been able to take advantage. |

From experience you will get poor return on part X compared to selling private but then I find cars over £10k can be hard to sell private as people scared of getting ripped off or want warranty etc.
Try only car buying companies although I avoid we buy any.... I've often had better results with these companies than part X and just as quick! |

That's what I've done - gone to a car buying dealer and got an extra £1k on top of the main dealer offer. Took the hit and just appreciated the 5 years my old XC90 has given me.
Happy days! |

I hope he does the same when he gets shot of his new 77K T8 Inscription
I am lucky and very grateful, but were best of mates and he had a really hard time with my step mum sadly passing last year and I think it was just his way of showing appreciation for me being there for him, which was my pleasure anyway. |
