Immobiliser see manual
Hi all,
Ok I accidentally put petrol in my Volvo S40 diesel and drove it till it stalled (really bad week and didn't notice till i checked receipt) Anyway i had car towed back to friends (a Mechanic) house and we took fuel tank off drained the system and filled with diesel pumped it through the whole system. We then turned car over but battery was low so put jump leads on and tried again it turned a few times then when decided to charge battery over night as it was getting late. The next day we tried again but this time when key got to position 3 stereo went blank but nothing. Didn't turn over and came up with "Immobiliser see manual" I have looked online and i have tried the lock and unlock 5x. Wait 5 hours for immobiliser to reset. Also tried pretty much everything else i have found on here to try all with no luck. Just wondering if anyone had and idea what i can do next please i really like my car and cant find anything else to try. |

Hi
Not good, that message usually means trouble. The only thing you can do on your own is to try disconnecting battery again for few hrs and connect again&pray. I heard cases of that actually helping. Other possibility is SCU (Start Control Unit) that may go bad and would need replacing. AFAIR it can be replaced from an used car and does not require visit to dealership. Worse option is its CEM or Key related, as any key->car programming require visit to dealership and pawning your body parts to cover bill. Plus its really hard to diagnose it yourself without Vida. there is a good thread on US forum with someone troubleshooting similar issue. maybe that will help you in diagnosing?

Hi all I'm new to this forum and now having similar issues with my S40 2.0D. Took it for an under the bonnet service. Since this service has been completed the car wont start and is coming up "immobiliser see manual".
I've tried the basic fixes like checking for loose connections by the box under the glove box, checked fuses, tried the unlock/lock 5 times, turn ignition to 2-0 5 times then try start the 6th and also tried a new battery and key battery all with no joy. Couldn't find anything else in this forum to find out what is wrong to point the garage in the right direction as no error codes are showing. Did the SCU or CEM fix the issue? Hope to hear back, Thanks Andrew. Last edited by andsmit89; Mar 27th, 2020 at 10:59. |

Thanks for the response. Yes mate. When you put the key in the ignition it clicks and the ignition comes and the steering unlocks as normal. Everything lights up with the usual beeps but when you turn the key to fire it up there's nothing. The lights stay lit but no power goes to the starter. When you put the key back to 2 that's when the message immobiliser see manual pop up on the display. When removing the key it clicks and the steering lock comes back on.
Don't know if it's worth mentioning but the alarm still works so don't know if the alarm and immobiliser are connected on Volvo's. Last edited by andsmit89; Mar 27th, 2020 at 17:38. |

Just thought I'd post an update. Finally had my car fixed and it was all down to the battery going flat and the car lost its codes for the keys. After getting the keys reprogrammed the car is back up and running!
Hope this helps some others out which feels like it's a big problem but something simple. My car went to a volvo Specialist who told me it's a common thing that happens if the battery gets drained. |

Glad you got it sorted.
Worth noting for future people with the problem - The above re-code solution is only an issue with the 2.0D's ECU and not any of the other engine variants. For other engine variants it's likely the SCU unit with a problem
