Automatic gearboxes - V50/S40
Hello all,
I’m contemplating the purchase of a V50/S40, probably with an auto, probably a D3/4 around the 61 plate era, plus or minus a bit. My question is whether these ‘boxes, although badged as “geartronic”, are a true auto with torque converter, or a powershift unit. When used in Ford products of the same era the powershift boxes have serious enough issues for me to want to avoid them. Comments welcomed. Thanks - Rob |

The Volvo D3/D4/D5 engines use Japanese Aisin-Warner boxes under the 'Geartronic' name.
They use a traditional torque converter. Powershift is available on the Ford Diesels and some of the Ford Petrols. |
