Smile Wanting to buy an XC90

Hi all.

I am looking to purchase a Volvo XC90. I have really fallen in love with the car and cant wait.

A few questions please.

I have 7-8K to spend and want to buy a diesel 2.4. Can I find something reliable with this money?

Is high mileage bad mileage? I have seen some with 100k +. Shall I avoid or are there good ones out there with high mileage?

Anything to look out for when I buy?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Az.

You can get them at that price, but need to be aware of what goes wrong on them - but most of the issues actually crop up from 70-100k so some may already have been done.

Mine is approaching 100k and still a very good car, just looking a bit worn from two kids and lots of usage, but mechanically still very good.

Things that commonly go are:
-wheel bearings (all round)
-intercooler
-ignition switch
-front wishbones (rubber bush split)
-inner and outer tie rods on steering rack
-droplinks on suspension
-dampers will be very tired at 100k (changed mine at 70k with droplinks and drives like a much newer car)
-solenoid for the turbo often goes
-FUEL FILTER on D5 - often ignored but recommended to change this immediately as can give lots of errors which some garages may assume are more expensive to fix!

Should also flush the geartronic fluid as volvo don't do that as standard as there have been reports of the auto box then failing at c.120k miles.

I would get a full readout of all the error codes on any vehicle you buy as they are complex and if poorly maintained can be a money pit.

+1 on everything that bluey_xc90 said but also check the boot latch works smoothly. 202,000 miles and going strong
