C30 2.0d MPG
I'm only getting 39/40mpg from my 2008 C30 2.0d with 220k miles. I have roof bars, a bike rack and 18inch Atreus wheels which I gather can affect MPG. I'm just wondering if this is normal for my car or should it be higher? I generally don't drive it hard although I live in a hilly area.

I can't speak personally for the 2.0d, but I've got a 2.0 petrol, that does marginally better than that on mixed drives, and around 45mpg on motorway running with nothing on the roof. As soon as I put the roof box on, the MPG drops by about 20% on motorway runs. I would expect a diesel to return better MPG than mine.
Is the car new to you, or have you had it a while and the MPG has recently declined? |

You don't say whether your consumption figures are an average/on a long run or round town.Certainly roof bars and a bike rack will have some effect on your figures[others will probably know better by roughly how much]I'm not so sure that the wheel size will alter things, although depending on what the standard size wheel/tyre combination is compared to what it is now then the rolling radius could have an effect on speedometer/mileage readings and therefore skew the figures slightly too?

No I have had the car nearly three years and it has returned roughly the same mpg in that time. Just someone remarked to me that they thought I should be getting more. It is mainly mixed driving, a mixture of local driving on hilly Roads and driving on dual carriageways. |

Before my troubles with the DPF started, I did roughly 4.8L/100km, or 49 mpg with mixed driving in my V50 of same vintage and a little less miles.
The 2.0D engine in a V50 is rated to do 5.7L/100km, 41 mpg, but with a gentler foot it is easy to get much more from it. The 2.0D is more for power than mileage though, as it will pull full steam from around 2000 rpm and up. |
