V70R help please, 1999
Hope some one can advise me, The valve on the cap of the expansion bottle activates and the coolant flows out although at this point the car isn't overheating but is at it's normal temperature, took it in to a garage and they replaced the thermostat and said a pipe in the wing going to the expansion tank was full of scale so they they cleaned the pipe out, also had to replace the thermostat housing as it cracked whilst they were working on it, just under £250 later and it's still doing it, a few weeks before that they replaced the radiator and the heater matrix, could it be related?, hoping some one can help.

Have you tried it with a new radiator cap? Same effect?
If you take the radiator cap off from cold, fire the engine up, does coolant bubble up everywhere? |

Thanks, will do that and see if the water flows when it's at operating temperature, I did wonder if the valve in the cap was releasing before it should as the cars not over heating, probably did six, seven miles in it before the valve opend so I would of thought if the water wasn't flowing it would of over heated before then,

As above, if it's the old grey cap it's a known fault, often changed as a matter of course as a precautionary measure for the newer style green cap. I did mine, although there were no problems with the old grey one.

Replace the radiator cap anyway, they are about a fiver from ebay, and then fire the car up with the radiator cap off. if it starts bubbling violently straight away, then its head gasket. Doubt it though sounds like your cap is just knackered. |
