340 Power Steering

Hi All,

In September last year I started a thread re power steering for my 340.It is still witthin these pages.

Within a few days of this I ordered a second hand power steering rack and pump. It arrived and has been waiting in my garage to be fitted.

Would you believe that tonight I took the old manual one off only to find that what they sent me certainly is not a 360 type which the early forum thread had indicated was the one to go for. It has no chance to fit to the existing brackets, and the attachment to the column is totally wrong.

Could I ask someone to confirm that a 360 power steering rack WILL fit on a 340 and possibly suggest a good place to contact to get hold of one.

After this amount of time I don't expect much joy in exchanging the power steering rack I got. Oh dear, don't tell the wife.

Dave, come over to volvo300mania.com - there are a LOT more people who can answer your question there..

i believe the rack will fit, but the pump wont, so you need to get the pump off some other car. i may well be wrong :)

Hi, the 360 rack will NOT fit a 340. the length of the column is different on both models. the 340 is about 3 inches and the 360 about 8 inches.

The 340 had a few power kits fitted as standard in the uk but most of the irish ones were pas.

try finding a breaker in irish republik.

I'm lead to believe it'll fit if you get the 360 steering column. The cars are essentially the same, so if you replace all the bits...:)
