The easy solution to avoid who selects what track to play is to allow someone else to........without any chatting inbetween the tracks.
Go to your TuneIn App and start listening to the Internet Radio Station called NME 1 which plays sold Indie stuff or if you prefer more edge then try NME 2 and just leave the track selection in the hands of NME.....

Default Apple CarPlay not working

Need some help.

Today I took my car to get it fitted with smartphone integration at the dealers. The lead technician had verbally confirmed the software has been installed along with the 2nd USB. I can see the 2nd USB in the center console. However, upon connecting my iphone X I couldn’t get the carplay to work. As per Volvo’s how-to video, siri is enabled on my iphone and I followed all other instructions but to no avail.

I can’t even see the green Apple CarPlay icon in the app view screen of the center display. I am not sure If I am missing something here!! Wondering if the green carplay icon should be visible all the time in the app view screen even when the phone isn’t connected.

You should be able to see both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on swiping right? Sounds like they haven't done it correctly.

Can’t see either ACP or AA. If it isn’t done correctly, which I too reckon could be the case, then it is very unprofessional work on their part requiring another 40-mile trip and 1/2 a day’s time.

Just make sure you scroll all the way to the bottom of the screen. If it is indeed missing then you're right, very poor. I'd be asking for compensation from having to go in again.

Just been out to the garage to check mine.
The “CarPlay” icon only becomes Green when either my iPhone or iTouch are plugged into the 2nd USB socket indicated by the White NBox around the actual socket. The instant the cable is pulled out the Green icon goes back to inactive grey.
I presume you have set the iPhone up correctly and can see the applicable CarPlay apps on your iPhone under Settings/General/CarPlay/My Volvo Car?

Thanks Simon for going the extra mile to check and confirm that to me. Yes, I connected my iphone to the USB indicated by a white box (i.e. installed this morning). However, I can see neither the ‘activated’ green icon when the phone is connected nor the ‘inactive grey’ icon when the phone is disconnected. This is as far as I can go within my iPhone settings: Settings>General>CarPlay and then next to AVAILABLE CARS I can only see the spinning wheel.

I think the car needs another visit to get this done properly.

If you cannot even see the inactive icons, then you have a faulty installation.
Presume you have seen S90’s above posting just in case the icons are installed BUT are hiding down the bottom awaiting you to drag them up to the media section?

Probably a silly question but have you tried another lightning cable just in case the one you are using is faulty? I only say that from experience when I tried one in my car(not CarPlay) and it didn't work. Another cable did.
