Dpf...
I wish I'd read this thread before I bought my latest car. I have a 2006 V70 185 with all the problems described. It has just had a new DPF, turbo and sensors (don't ask which) and is still consuming massive amounts of oil and the fuel consumption is very high. The cost including buying the car is running into thousands. I sold a perfectly healthy S60 D5 for £550 to buy this. To say I feel sick is an understatement. Reading this thread, and I have read it, there doesn't seem to be any conclusive fix. No nailed on, this is the problem. I am collecting it from a Volvo 'specialist' this morning who, despite being told what's wrong, has said there's oil getting into the turbo and they can't sort out the dpf until this is resolved. I told them about the oil consumption and asked them to ignore the dpf. I have nowhere to work on the car myself (especially given the weather) and really at a loss as to what to do. If I'd paid £500 for it. I'd scrap it.

As a matter of course, for the cost involved I would change the PCV valve which is only about £25 and located behind the oil filter housing.
They are known to fail and cause excessive oil consumption and when I bought my XC90 D5 5 years ago, I changed it automatically because it was cheap to do and was removing a potential issue. Just a thought

Pcv
We have a 2006 XC90 with similar issues - high oil consumption, no sign of oil leaks on floor, no smoke from exhaust, soot filter full warning comes on as soon as driving over 2500 revs.
Smoke comes out of dipstick when removed, no vacuum at the oil filler cap when tested with a latex glove (glove fills with smoke). Soot filter message goes away once car has been sat for a while, no need to try to regen. We had the dpf cleaned, new dpf sensor, garage can't figure it out. I bought a PCV valve online and asked garage to fit it but they stopped as they couldn't extract rear bolt and didn't want to risk snapping it without having other housing available. Any tips on removing that bolt? I also read that in many cases swapping the PCV valve has no real impact. I took the diaphragm out of the new valve and swapped it with the old one. The old one was a bit wrinkled but still looked intact and no holes or tears. But no difference in performance. Is it possible that the PCV housing can fail so the whole thing needs replacing or if the diaphragm is good does that rule out PCV failure? Does the whole of the PCV system (including hoses) need changing to be sure? Some people mentioned changing the oil separator cartridge, any feedback on that as a solution? Lots of questions but we'd be happy with any tips as we're so close to scrapping the car but would hate to do so...it's putting us off going for another volvo but we love the car! Soot filter full and oil consumption
Hi , I’ve got a 2007 xc90 d5, soot filter full on dash and I have very high oil consumption, earlier on on the year I rebuilt the head with new rockers and lifters, ran into a few issues regarding carbon falling down the ports when I cleaned them for new swirl flaps, so had to remove head, took it to a machine shop to get skimmed valves reseated with new stem seals, just done a 2000 mile round road trip around the north of Scotland and the only issue was high oil consumption, used around 3 to 4 pitot oil, got back to wales then a few days later got soot filter full on dash with limp mode which only happens when driven hard, turn off wait 10 mins then it’s ok, I’ve replaced the dpf pressure sensor and used a can of jlm dpf cleaner but didn’t work, thinking of trying a new pcv valve, would be very grateful for any help, thanks
