V reg v40 2.0t interior fuse box dilemma
Sorry to be boring folks as get the feeling this has been done may times here... I've trawled all over the www looking for help to check out if the cig-lighter has blown, since it no longer works to charge my phone/ipod.
I unscrewed the panel off below the steering-wheel but am buggered if I can see the fuse box! (did I need to do this I wonder?). Can anybody put me out of my misery and spell out where I need to look/what I need to do. Thanks in advance! P |

See photo. You need to remove the plastic cover and you'll see the fuses

Hello all, from a new Forum member. Thanks to your photo, gatos, I finally tracked down my fusebox but sadly, my plot thickens. I'm not totally stupid - my usual Forum posting activity is on computer problem which I fix for a living. This one, however has me foxed. Not only could I not find the fusebox but now having done so, I set about replacing the number 10 fuse - a 10Amp - so the new rear wiper motor I fitted might work. The old one had gone West by jamming completely and drawing too much power. The mechanic replaced three fuses in an attempt to make it work. The replacement motor has a wiper that moves freely so it's all down to electricity now. Trouble is, the manual differs from the fusebox cover in that position number 10 has a 20 Amp fuse in it and operates the front wiper. The correct fuse seems to be number 14 and should be a 20 Amp. I'm now going to replace that 20 Amp and see if I have lift off, rear wiper wise and by the look of it, the windscreen washer should then also work properly.
Have I actually stumbled upon a manual mis-print? If so, this may help someone in the future but for now, it's over to the knowledgeable ones for more guidance. Roger |

@Saga Lout, What car and what model year as the best way to check the correct fuse values and locations is from the wiring diagrams, you should be able to find the one for your car Here Download it and save it to your PC for future use - Mike

If it`s not the fuse as it was in my case, i first removed the cigarette lighter from the panel and cleaned the bottom part of rust where the two pieces of metal cross and it will work.

Thanks, Mike but mine is a '99 V40 Estate, first registered in October 1999, but that model year doesn't appear in your list of wiring diagrams. The manual is the right one although I bought it on e-Bay because the car came to me without one. I've reinstated the 20 Amp fuse in position 10 and replaced the other 20 Amp in position 14 in line wit the guide on the fuse box cover but my rear wiper still won't budge and neither do my front washers work.
It's quite annoying, having sourced bought and fitted the replacement motor only to fall over a the fuse stage!.. |

@saga lout, have you inspected the wiring loom under the radiator. It is a known weak spot on the phase 1 s/v40's, the loom can become water logged which in turn causes corrosion of the wires within the loom and various electrical faults.
