Default Volvo 144gl

Hi Simon, many years ago i also had a 1971 gl K reg, mine was metallic gold , with a black leather interior however it did not have a sunroof.
The car had only covered 40k miles and was completely original , it had never been painted and so i set about a light restoration.
I had the bottom half from wheel arch to wheel arch reprayed as there where some small surface rust scabs on the door bottoms .
I replated all the visible bolts in bright zinc and had the wheels repainted.
When finished , it was the best condition car i have ever had, the only negative was i could not find any new spotlights and so had to recover the refector lens in cooking foil.
When i entered the car in a few shows it won many , even best post 70's saloon at Tatton / Arley park.
However to cut the story short when one is young and without money, you quickly get bored and so i sold at auction and got a fantastic price for the car.
In my opinion the 144 gl is a very fine car and i hope you enjoy yours as much as i did.
Regards Julian

utube clip -very cool, looks like i need to get a tweed jacket & a large gold fish bowl ! LOL

cars been in for a once over by an MOT guy and the floor and Sills are all OK he seemed surprised.... - Good news. :-)

I've been quoted a worse case scenario of £700 to replace both the inner (If they need doing) & outer rear wheel arches both sides, by a local garage, they've reciently restored the body work a mercedes 190SL for some one I know and made a cracing job of it.

so hopefully I'll get it booked in in the next couple of weeks, I'll take some photos and will update and post some updates

Default Shiny new paintwork

collected car today,

Car has been christened Phil More (Said in Tom and Jerry style "Thomas... !" Philmore....)and is now part of the family

The previous owner said the car was known as Phil as he was always going to fill her up and it seems to have stuck with the family and it’s now know as PhilMore! or Phil for short.

Plugs and points have been changed which made a world of difference to the starting (which is still not good , but acceptable for an old car)

Takes 2 – 3 turns of the key , fires each time , but just doesn’t keep going and feels like it wants to stall when it is running till it warms up

Any thoughts on what to look at next would be appreciated - short term I think I’ll live with it.

Just drawing up a list of faults and trying to prioritise what to look at next, I’m hoping to have the other wheel arch done around Feb of next year

Here’s a couple of photos of the finished wheel arch – shame the rest of the car doesn’t look as nice
