stereo mounting kit- (below ashtray) wanted

Hi;
I'm looking for a kit to mount a modern stereo in the lower hole in my dash- I've just purchased a cool VDOdayton CDradio/Satnav thats DIN size. As I have a '79 with the early dash, this is the only place for it. Apparently Autoleads have discontinued it, and its not available from any of the suppliers- I've ordered three online and all orders were cancelled as its NLA.
Anyone have one laying about or know where one may be?

Hi, I have one fitted to my car - its just a metal plate with two bits of metal riveted on it and a rectangle cut in the middle of it. I could whip it out and make a cardboard template and post it to you if you'd like?

As for wiring - probably easier to just hardwire the radio in or use bullet connectors. Makes it much easier then if you decide to swap - all you have to do is crimp a few bullets on, rather than having to find rare adaptor leads.

Similar to that- but for a DIN mount- (just a large rectangle hole without the knobs)
I saw the thing I need on ebay US for only $8- but with shipping and duty it could be anywhere from 30-50 quid. I missed one from this country a few weeks ago- probably won't be another for quite a while.

Still, I'm thinking of making one from a sheet of 3mm plastic if I can't find one over here.

Oh good! I bought one a couple of weeks back and ive found it very useful for polishing up the carb and grinding the inlet manifold....no doubt I will use many times again aswell. Just a word of advice - DO NOT buy a battery one. The hassle of having a wire to plug in is far less than having barely any power and having the job take twice as long.

Ah thanks for the advice- I was thinking of a battery one because I have no power near my car and was also thinking of using it for removing those tiny rust spots. You're right- it'd be better to use my generator and a cord dremel for outside use.

Hmmm...well my experience was that the battery one gave up as soon as you put pressure against it, whereas the electric one I bought keeps going even if you put quite a large amount of pressure on it. I also think the genuine dremel ones are by far the best - at least dont buy a chinesey copy type thing if your thinking of a non genuine dremel item.

Ive drawn that template for you and written all the measurements on it accurately. I'll scan it in and send it to you via email over the next day or two.

Lower dash mounting kit on e-bay at the moment, item number 170312627561, I bought one a while ago for my 240, does the job perfectly.
