wobbly headlight beam
Hi, I have a 1998 V70 with halogen headlights. The n/s headlight beam shakes up and down whenever I drive over a very bumpy surface. The headlight unit is tight; leaving the bulb and reflector as the culprits.
Has anyone had this problem before and if so what was the cause. thanks jack. |

Has the adjuster motor link come off allowing the reflector to move on its own?

Hello Hugh, Many thanks but I think the wire is connected because both beams move up and down when using the levelling switch. Would the beam jump about if the ball and socket have become separated.

If the adjustment rod from the levelling motor had come off it wouldn't move when you use the adjusting switch to raise or lower the beam.
I would make sure the spring clip holding the bulb in place is located properly, maybe change the bulb in case that's faulty. Double check that the light unit is securely fixed in place with all three bolts. |

Hi Volvoagain & Hugh, I tried the levelling switch again and this time neither h/light beam is moving up or down. I fitted a good quality HID kit a few months ago so I don't know whether that is having any effect upon the h/lights.

That sounds like the links have come off. Time to strip them apart.
