Engine oils

No doubt its been asked many times before, but which oil do you use and why?
Myself in my 940 2.3ti (B230FK) I always use Castrol Magnatec 10W-40 part synthetic, and because I only do little mileage, a lot of short runs its changed every 12 month along with filter, I also use Shell V-Power petrol and add a bottle of Liqui-Moly now and then, What do you use ?

I've been using Shell Helix HX7 10W-40 semi synthetic since I've had the car. I change every 3k on the dot !

I'm also B230fk

D24T diesel...

I use fully synthetic 5W30, and change every 6k miles with filter.

A better interval would be every 6 months David, knowing how you use your car - also switching to BP Ultimate will probably improve the running too.

I've been using Tradetec 10W40 semi-synth in the Rover, very good oil. Tried some stuff from ebay (Mannol) but the Volvo didn't like it, burned most of it for some reason!

Good shout on changing the Helix every 3 months Mark. The additives in it that make it better when new than some others seem to deteriorate rapidly after about 3k miles so almost everybody i know that uses it change it every 3 months/3k miles.

3k miles is 6 months for me Dave. Although I've only done 2.5k in the current 6 months due to all the Big Cahuna Virus

That didn't work

I was trying to link to Opie oils which shows a selection of different 10w 40 semi synthetic oils.

Castrol was one of the more expensive ones and I used to use that years ago. Anyone remember Castrol R two stroke oil ?? Loved that smell

Sorry Mark, i meant to say 3k miles all the way through, not mix it up with 3 months.

woud be interesting how our engine wear compares ive been putting millers XFE
semi synthetic 10-40 oil in my diesel for best part of 20 years and 220000 miles oil and filter changed every 5000 miles .i did send it of to millers for analysis many years ago .but last time i asked them its now £25 for the test so not bothered .this engine done 273000 miles now . whats your D24 mileage?

Looked on the Liqui Moly website and they list a lot of products. What do you put in your B230FK ?

Mine is only on 168000 or so. And only 35k miles of those are mine. I don't really have anything to go by in terms of comparing wear...

Mine runs lovely though
