Default voltage stabilisers

Just a quick one, are 1970s stabilisers the same as later 1980s ones?
My fuel and temp gauges are going bananas on the 265 (1979).Its a bit of a wrestle to get the instrument panel out to check numbers etc.
Thanks,
Jim

yes the output is an average 10v obtained by different components , early one is mechanical and later electronic but do the same job .

Jim,

Have a look at this:

https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showp...&postcount=383

... it fixes the problem with a modern, solid state component that is much more reliable for less than a tenner, and is very easy to fit.

Alan

PS. Here is the item (£9.10, a bargain I think):

It will be by far the most cost effective (and I suspect most reliable) solution Jim. I've just looked on the SKANDIX site and can see they have an exchange one for 79 Euros plus 60 Euros postage (around £125 I suppose) plus 119 Euros core charge for the return item (plus your return postage of course).

https://www.skandix.de/en/spare-part...ument/1021371/

It is a no brainer - £9 versus about £130 (after the deposit is returned) - and even then you still get 1960's technology. The work to change it isn't much more - it takes most of the time to get the binnacle out - the rest is just spade connectors.
