Default High Engine Temp Lower Speed warning at stoplight

Hi,

The other day we had a heat wave in North Florida and while stopped at a stoplight with the AC on I got a "high engine temp lower speed" warning on the dash; I turned off the AC, turned off the heat, and it went away.

When I pulled into a lot a couple blocks away and parked, it sounded like a cooling fan was on, but then it went off, and I didn't see the fan come on again. I let the car run later with the AC on and the fan didn't come on, but the warning didn't either.

Now I am trying to figure out...

What is the proper behavior of the dual fan?

The larger fan (driver's side) seems to come on when I first start the car, then go off. The lower fan I never see on.

The outdoor temp has cooled off again, so I don't know how to verify correct operation of the dual fan. I did order a used fan assembly to replace mine (assuming the module or a fan is the culprit), but without seeing the fans come on, I don't know what I should be looking for after replacement to ensure proper operation BEFORE we start seeing high temperatures again.

How should the fans operate, when do they come on, stay on, etc..?

Thank you in advance!

So, question answered. I installed the new used radiator fan assembly and now both fans operate when the car is turned on, then shut off, and both come on when I switch the ac on.

Getting the fan assembly out the top was difficult. I removed the air intake and removed the screw and top hose for the ac cooler. There are only two clips holding the radiator fan assembly in, then it slides up, the unit has to shift towards the drivers side, then tilts up passenger side first. The power steering hose nuts needed to be removed and the clip that held it to the hose (ac line ? Can’t remember) so I could push them out of the way as I lifted it up and out. Goes back in same way it came out but easier.

Getting air intake hose onto throttle body was difficult until i wiped a little oil in plastic end where it fits over throttle body. Removed lower cover like with oil changes to do all that.
