Bloodlands - Jimmy Nesbit's XC90
Hi Everyone,
Just wondering whether anyone else has been watching Bloodlands on BBC1 Sunday evenings? Reason for asking is that, since the first episode, I've been quite bemused by the appearance of the bonnet... The centre section of all XC90s that I've noticed is, much like most other cars, smooth and of a single plane. James Nesbitt's car, however, has a recess that runs about 1-2cm in from the 'edges' of the centre section, with this appearing to sit about 1cm lower than the rest of the panel. Unfortunately I can't find any images online to link, so I'm hoping that someone else has spotted this and knows why it is. I did wonder whether it was to do with the body being re-inforced as the series is based in Northern Ireland, but I've not noticed any such differences on the other panels or vehicles shown. I'd also not expect a reinforced area to be lower than the main panel, so this doesn't really fit. Any ideas please anyone? |

I've not watched it myself but going by your description alone, do you mean the central recessed section as in the attached picture?
If so, it's a feature of all of the Gen1 XC90's. I guess it put was there to add some visual interest to an otherwise large expanse of flat panel, and it probably contributes some rigidity too.

Xc90
I’ve been watching it too and thought, I’ve never had an XC90- must get one. Anyone got a well-looked after one for £3-£4K?!
Currently have my XC70...😀 |

Looks like every other factory fitted Mk1 bonnet I've seen

Thanks everyone - just me going blind and being unobservant it seems then, lol.
Interestingly I did search for XC90 Mk1s before making the post to ensure that I wasn't speaking rubbish and didn't spot a single one with that recess - clearly I didn't look close enough and did end up spouting a load of guff! |

Very obvious in pictures though

But a couple of things still don't add up..
It does appear to have front parking sensors and no headlamp washers I guess this might have been standard but my se my2003 has headlamp washers but no front park sensors I know historically that NI cars have different options as standard. Certainly the reg does not exist but the ones used must be for this drama only. Definitely mark 1 as rear lights have circular clear areas I noted (yes sad). And the headlights are very authentic, just about as bad as mine. May have to replace at next mot... Again sad really that I am more interested in the car rather than the drama! |

The headlight washers were part of a winter pack option on the early SE’s (and possibly the later ones). Front parking sensors were an option over the whole life of the XC90.

This is a very niche conversation! Love the fact that a BBC drama can create a discussion on a Volvo...anybody seen Wallander?!
