Slightly confusing, W in the Volvo VIN or Chassis number would be 98 model year, but Griston is referring to W reg which is the UK registration or licence plate number which would have had the format W 123 ABC in spring and summer of 2000, so I would say 2000 model year as Volvo changes the model year in late summer to the following calendar year.

My V70 is on a V reg and first registered on 1/1/2000 so unless it hung around the dealers a long time would obviously have been built in 1999 A W reg would have been registered at or after the reg change date[March?] so would have been built either 1999 or very early into 2000.

Ok, I was referring to the VIN, and there W is 98MJ. How english Licenceplates are organized, sorry don't know! May be, I have misunderstood. Sorry for that but again what learnt!

After visiting the garage today it's not as bad as I thought. The corrosion is on both axle mounting brackets which is a common point on these cars.

They were pretty bad as you can see

I've ordered both brackets and also new bolts as they are also pretty crusty.

Hopefully car will saved

Where did you order them from? I've got the same problem on the right side, and I can only find original Volvo items for sale at approaching £200 each, the normal suppliers of the cheaper aftermarket items (around £35-ish each) are all out of stock of the right-hand one.

Here's my thread asking about suppliers: https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=314882

Seems this is a common rot spot on these eh? Cheers!

I ordered both from here https://classic-volvo.com/steun-rech...8631284_b.html

Postage is a bit steep but as I needed both it's still a massive saving compared to original Volvo ones. ( these will probably disintegrate in a couple of months ! ) I was £77.00 for both with shipping
