Default Bluetooth module

Hi Peeps,
Have now got a 2008 XC90 with built in phone, but this requires a sim card.
I am trying to find out if a Volvo XC90 2010 2.4 D5 BLUETOOTH CONTROL PHONE MODULE ECU 31310743 could be installed and would work, as I cannot get a duplicate sim and don't want a different number for the car.

Thanks

Good question, I wondered the same.

Unfortunately, I strongly believe the firmware inside the radio controller is different to handle the extra Bluetooth device on the audio network

In 2008, there was no Bluetooth device at all, and the firmware very likely does not support it, because it never existed.

In 2010, the Bluetooth device existed, and the audio system firmware is very likely different to the 2008 firmware.

As to which components of the audio system have different firmware, that is hard to say. It could be just the ICM (controller and display), and/or the radio/CD player, and/or the audio amplifier.

Ideally, you should find a donor vehicle and get all the active components from the donor vehicle and try them out one by one, and report back here....

Have phoned Marshalls, my local stealer (2 hours ago!) and am waiting on a call back.

I don't think it will work.

When I ordered mine new there was no blutooth available so I had a GROM kit fitted aftermarket, which can also stream from a phone. The later car had differences in the stereo and I don't believe the seperate modules are backwards backwards compatible...but jappy to be proven wrong if someone has done it.

You could always set up call forwarding so calls get sent onward to the car phone. On modern smartphones once youve set it up the once its a two button press job to repeat it.

BTW, don't trust Marshalls. Early on in my ownership mine came back with an extra 70 miles on the clock and marks in the leather on the rear seat as if a small, heavy item had been placed there. After that episode I switched to Bells in Northampton and they are much better.

The dealer will only give you the official story:
On a 2008 Volvo no Bluetooth module was ever available ex factory, and VIDA shows no options to add one.
