2020 xc90 t8 recharge wheel size
I bought a 2020 XC90 T8 Recharge R Design a year ago from a Volvo Selekt dealership. It came with 22" alloys. We've been through three tyres already! We want to change the wheels to 20" ideally.
Volvo won't give us a clear answer as to why they will only approve one alloy in 21", apart from saying it's because of the weight (battery in the recharge and obviously size of car). They did also tell us the brakes are 19", which makes me want to know why we can't have 20"? I don't really understand why out of their extensive list of alloys available they will only approve one for our car. This makes me feel too nervous to go outside of Volvo (who want to charge £3,400 for a set of four including tyres), even though every alloy company I've spoken to just say 20" is fine. I confess to not being a 'car person' and so my general understanding of technical stuff is basic! Car is currently off road as we don't want to replace the 22" tyre! Can anyone help me? |

The dealership has only the information and advice made available to it by the manufacturer and has no incentive to take any risk on itself by going outside of that. Clearly it is your vehicle and you're free to do with it as you see fit but that risk then lays with you. Perhaps someone here can recommend alternatives based on their own personal experience but if that's that case, you'd probably be more likely to get a response by posting in the gen 2. XC90 section rather than here (gen 1, prior to 2015).

Ah, so sorry! Never used a forum before and took me ages to work out how to post at all!
Will re post in other section if I can work it out. I think my question was based around the frustration that Volvo keep giving us different information and can't seem to give us a definitive reason as to why just that one. I am a stickler for trying to understand things - even if out of my comfort zone.... |
