Angry New MoT tests

The powers that be love dreaming up new rules for cars. How about some new rules for the 'powers that be' to have to observe?

1. Failure to maintain road surfaces and fill in pot holes will cost several overpaid Highways Agency fatcats their jobs and pensions.
2. Compensation will be payable to any car owner experiencing premature wear and tear to his vehicles suspension as a result of living in an area suffering a proliferation of 'traffic calming' obstacles.
3. Any authority causing so many road signs to be erected in one street as to cause complete confusion for the visiting motorist shall be liable to pay compensation.
4. The man who invented mini-roundabouts shall be shot out of hand.
5. Further to rule 3 above, any council that doesn't maintain a sensible minimum of street-name and directional signs shall be put up for instant re-election by means of the AV system and will have enforced a 50% cut in councillors 'allowances'.
6. Coned-off sections of roads will be inspected for work actually being carried out beind the cones. Where no work is evident the cones will removed and sold off to clear the national debt.
7. Matrix signs that are used to display patronising 'advice' (ie: 'Think Bike' on an M-way - where bikes are fact banned), or hopelessly optimistic journey times (ie: 'M1 junction 4: 5 miles 5 minutes') will be switched off permanently.

On my old 4x4 Sierra I removed the cat internals leaving the case behind I took the cat off removed all the internals with a big bar & hammer then I fitted a piece of exhaust tubing inside the cat casing welded it in at either end then refitted the de catted cat you could not tell it had been modified from looking at it

Yup. Here in America, where saving the Earth is more important than actual safety, the emissions test is the thing that takes many old cars off the road since it easily can cost more than the car is worth to get it to pass. I just got the 740 through yesterday (with a failing cat.) Thankfully, it clogged up while waiting in the queue and unclogged when I shut off the engine to actually begin the test. But before the test, they pressurize the petrol cap to see if it vents properly and use one of those anti-bomb mirrors to inspect the entire exhaust system to see if has been modified or has leaks, although they didn't notice it was sitting on the rear axle and only has one muffler instead of two. Any failure of the above will fail the test even if the actual emissions pass. FYI, with a new O2 sensor, and nothing else, the emissions were less than half of the allowable limits on both NO and CO, on a vehicle with about 340,000 miles on its engine.

Default MOT Regs for 2012

It looks as if there is also a requirement for any headlamp cleaning device if mandatory does this mean "factory fitted"? to be working and effective.

I've googled this to a standstill with little success in respect of clarification - any clues fro you knowledgeable peeps?

Google search of "mandatory headlamp cleaning device" yields top result of this page which has in the second post this link which states, quite clearly in section 1.7, that HIDs (and LED headlamps) are required have a headlamp washing system (wiper not required) - whether original fitment or aftermarket makes no odds, they must to be able to self-clean.
