MOT Regs I queried the regs as below
I note that steering lock operation now is part of the car MOT test could you please advise re: I have two saabs one an old 95 that has what appears at first sight to be fitted with such a lock but in fact as they at that time believed such locks were a danger actually locks the column change in reverse gear The other has the same type of lock with a floor mounted ignition switch again locking into reverse Is the gear locking mech part of the test? Where a push button start system or code security start system has been fitted and the column lock is no longer fitted ( eg car used for sports events but used as road car as well) what is the position. Is this a system must work if fitted check or it must have one? I had the following response We have now received the following reply from Roadworthiness Testing and Policy Group: The inspection of steering locks only applies to cars first used on or after 1 September 2001 that had a steering lock fitted as standard by the manufacturer. In cases where the original steering lock has been removed; this is acceptable if it is replaced by another 'permanently installed' immobilisation device which acts on either the steering, gear shift, transmission or prevents the engine from running. I hope this information has assisted you with your enquiry, but if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us again. |

MOT query
Hey all,
I've just bought a s40 turbo diesel 2006 model and since I got it the back callipers have been seizing on and some godawful knocking noises have been coming from the all over the car. The garage won't have anything to do with it so a friend has looked at it for me. He says that one engine mount has gone, the anti roll bar bushes are gone, track control bushes, trailing arm (top and bottom) My question is, would any of these cause an MOT fail? The car was MOT'd for me taking the car away and have been querying faults with them for the month and a half I've had the car. Should I report this garage to trading standards? Thanks for any help guys! |
