Dead battery and cannot open doors
Hi,
My X (2000) reg V70 has a very dead battery - the remote locker will not open the doors, neither will using the actual key in the doors. When using the door key, it clunks and the knob moves up a small amount. It has been suggested to me that the opening is partly powered and therefore that is why it does not work. Any assistance in being able to get in to re-charge the battery, or charge the battery without getting into the car (is that even possible?!) would be appreciated. I need to work out how to get into the boot! Once re-charged it is going up for sale (decent condition and just over 100,000 on the clock), so solutions of reasonably low expense! Thanks |

Most towing companies can crack a front door open, that would be the faster way - the door frame will get bent a little but can put it back in shape once opened. The other way I see is releasing the bonnet (+ cable runs inside) from the front grill but it may turn into an adventure https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HwOv6AIqxHY

If a trailer socket is fitted, connect a charger to the permanent power feed
Or go under the car, look for access tot he starter motor or alternator: connect a charger to one or the other Once connected, you'll have enough power in a few minutes to unlock the car

I’d have suggested back of starter motor - alternator is high up and probably out of reach. You may need to take the undertray off if fitted.
Drivers door lock isn’t powered and will work without a battery connected. Have you tried lubricating it? If the car is a factory 7 seater there will also be a lock in the tailgate next to the number plate lights. |

Don't know your model but most Volvos have a key point on or around the boot/tailgate area. Usually"plugged" to avoid dirt. It is prised out with the key and the boot opened. You can then get to the bonnet release and or battery.
I've had to do this several ( many) times having left the parking/ position lights on!! |

Correct about both the door lock and the trunk lock (on S60), these are mechanical and should work perfectly fine with the battery disconnected. However there can be sometimes an issue with the door barrel getting disconnected from the lock causing the key to no longer work. Fix in the second page - https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/fo...ic.php?t=89396
