Help: Importing UK MY18 XC60 to EU failing on headlight beam
I'm at my wit's end.
I have a UK MY18 XC60 which I am importing to Sweden. As such it needs to pass a registration inspection. Part of the inspection is that the headlight beam shape conforms to LHD. The shape we have is flat with a 'kick up' on the side but the kick is on the wrong side for EU/LHD traffic; so it failed. Some models have a 'tourist mode' and some can change the beam pattern from RHD to LHD, but not MY18 XC60s apparently. I have LED lights with Active High Beam and headlight 'bending'. I can turn these off with toggle options on the main display screen though this doesn't appear to do anything (except when I turn the steering wheel). There is a thread which says "you don't need to do anything" but that is only for driving abroad and not importing. There don't appear to be controls or settings to change the beam shape for this model... so what do I do? The manual says this is only for the XC90 so I'm really confused. - No help from Volvo central (they pass me to a local dealer who doesn't know) - No help from Volvo service (again, they don't know what to do) - No help from the inspector (though they spent 30 mins checking all their EU cars to see if they could do something). - Stickers on the lights would also fail the inspection The only option I can come up with is to buy new LHD headlights. Used ones are about £700 EACH. And am I even able install them myself or is there some calibration needed? I really hope someone can help.

The likelihood is new lights, and you can likely fit them yourself, but they will need to be coded to the car which only the dealer can do.
There is nothing in the manual for that model year either Have a gander here https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/archi.../t-269995.html

As said above it's new lights I'm afraid. Or at least it was when importing LHD Fiat based Hymer Motorhome the opposite way.

With all that hassle why not sell it and buy a LHD model when there.

It's a top spec 2018/19 XC60 and to sell the car only to buy the same thing again would loose us thousands. Sweden is much more expensive for car purchases and we don't have credit here for 18 months. We looked at what we would get for the car in the UK, and what's available here. It was supposed to be cheaper and easier to simply import it. We'd also have to drive it back. When we started the process we didn't know we needed to change the headlights, we thought they were neutral as so many posts say nothing needs to be done. The car has now passed through customs. We're doing what we can.

A parts department in the UK has made a technical request to Volvo to provide the correct parts numbers for the LHD headlights. We'll see what they come back with and will try and find some used here in Sweden.

Had the same problem here with my Wife's '20MY XC60 here in Poland. Managed to Find a LHD set of headlights from a written off XC60 and fitted them. £650 all in. Kept the original lights just in case we return to blighty. My X5 was faŕ easier, just 30 minutes of workshop time to adjust the UK headlights!

If these are LED's you should be able to take it to a dealer and have the beams reset/calibrated to wrong side of road spec.
