Default Possible Turbo replacement!

Hello, I have a V50 1.6 diesel 2011 that was recently serviced and is now basically not fit to drive. The revs are pulsating and it wouldn’t start the following day. Smoke now coming from the turbo. The garage are at a loss but think it could be the turbo due to the oil change. The car is very low mileage (60,000) so I’d like to get it repaired but don’t know who to take it to. Any recommendations gratefully received please….. thank you

Hello.

In the first instance, leave it with the garage that serviced it and caused the issue, if you think that is what has happened.

The burden of responsibility for rectifying or compensating any damage done by them lies with them. I'd be writing to the service manager/owner to explain that I expect them to restore the vehicle to the condition that it was presented to them in, at their cost less the cost of the service schedule it was due.

Ultimately, they may not have the skill or inclination to do so. But you should be careful not to start involving any third party who might act on the vehicle and in so doing potentially give the first garage an escape clause for their responsibility. Exhaust all possibilities with them first and make their liability clear. Only then, if necessary, seek physical remedy elsewhere.

Make your communications in writing (email/hardcopy) so you have a record of interactions for a small claims court appearance if it really comes down to that.

BTW - I'm not really up on the V50 but if it has the D5 series of engine, there's always the possibility that they've just overfilled the engine with oil. That seems to happen more often than it should, from what I've read on this forum.

Even so, the problem should be laid squarely with the garage that serviced it. How they choose to remedy it is their problem to resolve.

You've posted in the wrong section. Find the right technical section further down the home page of the forum.

The 1.6 tdi engine in those cars is not a good one, so many issues plague them, turbo is quite soft. But if you like it you can get it looked at and repaired.

Beware car has a dpf and if turbo has failed (might not be that) and thrown oil into the dpf, you'll need a new dpf too.
