leaking heater control valve
Hi,
I've just discovered that the heater control valve on our '96 940lpt is leaking coolant into the drivers' footwell. Can anyone please advise me on step by step method of replacement? Also does anyone know if the part is sold by German & Swedish? I've got a haynes manual but says nothing about valve replacement on non- air con. like ours. With thanks, Dave. |

RE: leaking heater control valve
You can obtain the correct part (new, OEM) from C.P.Motors at Polesworth (near junction 10 of M42). They will be happy to entertain a mail order if you order it online from http://www.cpmotors-volvo.co.uk G,S&F or Eurocarparts should also stock the required part which can be looked up on the respective web sites.
Funnily enough mine has also started to seep coolant and my car is also 1996 model 945, but Turbodiesel. All the best, Peter |

RE: leaking heater control valve
Dear Peter,
Thank you for your reply. The Volvo web site you suggested looks very usefull, especially as they also supply used parts ,which could be handy if needed. Just for information; GSF don't supply the part,a quote from local Volvo dealer is £45.41 inc., and used from C.P.Motors is £23.50 inc. The American Brickboard also explain how to fit the part, although I think it;s a bit different being L.H.D. Kind Regards, Dave. |

RE: leaking heater control valve
It certainly is different. The valve is just above your left foot and comes through the bulkhead. All the best, Peter |

RE: leaking heater control valve
Hi Dave,
I did this a few weeks ago on my 1993 940 SE (no a/c). It is not too tricky, but here's what I found by trial and error. Firstly, remove the clutch pedal and mounting. Disconnect all the bits of the valve you can see. The valve is held in a plastic housing - don't just pry it off or you'll break it. The valve plus housing assembly is is held onto the firewall by 2 plastic lugs on the valve that twist into a metal plate on the firewall. Twist valve assembly through 90 degrees and it should come off - this is why you need to remove the clutch pedal housing. I seem to recall anticlockwise is off. I hope this makes sense. If it works out well, it should only take an hour or so. Good luck, Geoff |

RE: leaking heater control valve
The US website is for a LHD with air co please note. DO NOT by a used heater control valve or matrix, it would be a waste of money.
